FAQ

What is the comparison granularity?

Comparison is by line (based on the Longest Common Subsequence, LCS). If only one character changes in a line, the whole line is still marked as "one deletion + one addition" — that is normal for line-level diffs, and matches Git's default display.

What happens if the text is too long?

LCS needs a two-dimensional table. If the product of the line counts on both sides exceeds about 4 million (for example, 2,000 lines each), the browser will slow down noticeably, and this tool will prompt you to split the text and compare it in parts.

Do blank lines and trailing spaces count as differences?

Yes. Comparison is exact, line by line, so an extra trailing space counts as a change — which is exactly what you want to catch when debugging configuration files.
