FAQ
Is MD5 still secure?
MD5 has been proven collision-prone, so do not use it for password storage or security signatures. It is only suitable for non-security purposes such as file integrity checks and deduplication. Use bcrypt / Argon2 for passwords.
Will large files freeze the page?
Files are read into memory and hashed locally in one go — a few hundred MB is fine. For GB-sized files, use the command line instead: sha256sum filename (Linux/macOS) or certutil -hashfile filename SHA256 (Windows).
